Liquid Soap vs Bar Soap

November 20, 2008

Liquid soap has its uses, but I am still partial to bar soap.  Today, I am making a large batch of liquid soap since it is taking off a bit now.  I admit, I’m a relative newby at liquid soapmaking, but with years of bars soap making behind me, it helps to at least understand the process.  Making cold process soap is much about preparation ahead of time – the actual process doesn’t take very long.  Liquid soap requires little prep, but the process takes longer.  It is sort of like roasting a turkey – you just keep coming back and basting it every 30 minutes.

Liquid goat milk soap is really wonderful, I just am partial to my bar soap too.  Now, I sometimes feel that I have to decide between the two, sort of like picking a best friend in 2nd grade.

The Day After the Election

November 5, 2008

It’s always good for me to make soap, especially after a big event.  I felt a bit of a letdown after the election, sort of like the day after Christmas.  The entire past year has been so eventful and monumental that the actual event was sort of anticlimatic, at least for me.  I, for one, am glad its over, so we can move on.

Soapmaking is grounding for me – I can make soap on a crazy day and be back to myself in an instant.  Everyone needs something like that.  Today, I made soap that I am running out of or totally out of.  Even though I have made all of these before, the really interesting thing is that they never turn out exactly the same due to the handmade soap aspect, y’know.

I get many suggestions from the folks that I talk to – from all over the country.  The latest suggestion is a really scrubbie soap, something I do not have.  The suggestion involved poppy seeds.  Hmmm….

How about you?  What other soaps are you interested in?
