Those old sayings that have been around forever take on new meaning when they become relevant, such as “when it rains, it pours” or “what doesn’t kill you will make you stronger” (it’s goes something like that). Yes, well, this has been one of the most memorable weeks I can remember. And it all culminated with my birthday, which slid easily by amidst all the craziness. Bug bites of unknown origin, computer crashes, scouts, school, moving days, and hot flashes. Fortunately, God blessed me with soap and that keeps me sane when the entire world seems to have grown crazy. Looking at the pandemic flu signs up at school didn’t help either.

Dealing with the Unexpected
June 2, 2009On Friday, I will come back from a week long and much needed break. Although I miss my soap and my business doings, it has been great to think and finally relax. What was a surprise is that my phone is not getting a signal where we are. Imagine that! Even more disturbing is that the computer is also getting an intermittent signal. My reaction to this outwardly to my family was “it’s ok – no big deal” but inwardly I was not liking the feeling of being cutoff. But, I told myself, it’s only for a week! C’mon, give yourself a break. It will still be there and no worse for the wear.
So, I am forced to not return any phone calls until Friday, but at least I can catch a signal sometimes on the laptop. Pitiful, I am.
He is Risen
April 13, 2009Matthew 28:8-9
So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word. And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him.
Spring Cleaning
March 20, 2009I think it may be here! Spring, that is. The flowers are blooming, the bees are buzzing and I am feeling the need to clean. I admit, I am not the best at cleaning (maybe that is why I make soap – to make up for it?) but sometimes, I get this urge to just Clean! The thing is – it has gotten bad – there are Lego’s on the floor, crumbs under papers on the kitchen table, and who knows what else? A friend of mine suggested “five minute cleaning”. A bit here, and bit more there and things start to look up, or look better anyway.
Why can’t I do it the way my mother did? Every spring, she washed windows, cleaned the oven, had the drapes and curtains cleaned, cleaned off the outside walks and porch, and more. It was a frenzy of cleaning and I shudder to think about it even now! Just thinking about it makes me tired. But, did she make soap? No sir, she did not! Take heart, spring cleaners, there is hope for me yet!
Recycling Boxes
March 11, 2009Don’t know if you noticed, but we recycle boxes here at Country Scents. It saves money and then we can pass that on. We always remove the old shipping labels, however. A good way to remove them is by using a utility knife or box cutter. Just go lightly around the edges of the label without delving into the box itself and then pull it off. This way, the box is left intact and reusable. We try to recycle any packaging we can – boxes, packing peanuts, packing paper, etc.
